The best time to take a pregnancy test whether at home or not is two to three weeks after your missed period. Only then does the body begin to secrete more of the hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin). If you do it before, it will give you negative.
Sometimes, some symptoms of pregnancy are confused with those of menstruation, since the breasts are more sensitive, there is abdominal pain, perhaps a bad mood, irritation or excessive tiredness. However, there are others that are specific to pregnancy, such as the famous vomiting.
Probably, you still don’t dare to take the test because you want to wait a little longer to verify that you are pregnant. In the meantime, you can play around with the following home tests to find out if you’re pregnant:
1. Vinegar test
If you ask your mother or grandmother, they will surely tell you that they have used it or that they know who used it to find out if she was pregnant. The test consists of collecting the first urine of the morning in a previously boiled glass.
Then, add a tablespoon of vinegar and let stand for half an hour without stirring. If there is no change, it means that you are not expecting a baby. If foam forms or changes color… Congratulations!
Test with Pregnancy Strips
This is the most common method which mostly women’s are using now at home, you can buy pregnancy strips from any medical store or from a hospital for test. It very easy in use.
2. Vaginal discharge test
It is not really a test, since it is based on analyzing the color of the vaginal discharge for a few days. When there is a pregnancy, it becomes almost transparent and stays that way for at least a few weeks.
3. Soap test
Another of the home tests to know if you are pregnant that has been used for years, because it seems to work. You need a bar of white soap – the one used to wash clothes – and, of course, urine.
The test consists of placing the soap in a glass container and then pouring the morning urine until it covers it completely; then, cover and shake a little. If a thick foam forms, the result is positive.
4. Needle test
We can also find some tests that are more than anything a game between the women of the family. For this one in particular, you need a needle and thread; if you don’t have one, you can use a pendant and chain.
Thread the needle through about a foot of thread and make a nest in the end. Lie down on the bed or sofa and place the needle about 10 centimeters from the belly (in suspension). Be completely still and wait a few minutes to see what happens. If it moves without help, it’s because you’re pregnant.
And there is still more: depending on the movement of the needle, the baby is said to be a boy —if the movement occurs in a linear direction— or a girl —if the needle moves in circles.
Other pregnancy tests involving urine
As mentioned before, the first morning urine is the main ingredient for multiple home tests to find out if you are pregnant. So we mention some of the most popular:
- Chlorine pregnancy test: the first morning urine should be collected in a boiled glass. Then, a tablespoon of chlorine will be added and, if the urine forms a lot of foam or changes color, the result will be positive.
- Cold urine test: consists of collecting the first urine in the morning and placing it in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. The urine will form a kind of accumulation of particles. According to popular belief, if the particles form on the surface… Congratulations, you are pregnant!
- Pregnancy test with hot urine: it is necessary to place the urine in a metal bowl and boil it for a few minutes. Subsequently, it is necessary to let it cool, if a layer of particles forms on the surface, the result will be positive, “confirming” the pregnancy.
- Oil pregnancy test: according to popular belief it is one of the most reliable. The first urine of the morning should be collected and placed 2 drops of oil separated from each other with a dropper. The result will be positive if after a few minutes both drops come together.
Other tests also evaluate the reaction of the urine to various substances such as sugar and toothpaste. However, it is necessary to remember that none of these methods has scientific support. Furthermore, they will never replace the effectiveness of traditional pregnancy tests.
You can use some of these home tests to find out if you are pregnant, or when you want to tell your partner or family the news. It will be very fun and exciting!
